Nuisance Attribute Projection in the Logarithm Domain for Face Recognition under Severe Illumination Changes

چکیده
Illumination induced appearance changes represent one of the open challenges in automated face recognition systems still significantly influencing their performance. Several techniques have been presented in the literature to cope with this problem; however, a universal solution remains to be found. In this paper we present a novel normalization scheme based on the nuisance attribute projection (NAP), which tries to remove the effects of illumination by projecting away multiple dimensions of a low dimensional illumination subspace. The technique is assessed in identification experiments performed on the YaleB database, where an average rank one recognition rate of 99.6% is obtained on the test image sets. Comparative results with state-of-the-art techniques also show the competitiveness of the proposed technique.

Weighted Fusion Of Gradient, Vertical Gradient And Horizontal Gradient In Logarithm Domain For Face Recognition Under Varying Lighting
In this paper, the illumination problem of face recognition is investigated. A conclusion is drawn that the logarithm vertical gradient (LVG) of face images is more robust to varying lighting than the logarithm horizontal gradient (LHG). When the variation of illumination is large, LVG will be a better representation of the face image than logarithm gradient (LG). Although both LVG and LHG can ...

Face recognition under varying lighting conditions is challenging, especially for single image based recognition system. Exacting illumination invariant features is an effective approach to solve this problem. However, existing methods are hard to extract both multi-scale and multi-directivity geometrical structures at the same time, which is important for capturing the intrinsic features of a ...

متن کاملTwo-wire nuisance attribute projection
This paper addresses the task of nuisance reduction in twowire speaker recognition applications. Besides channel mismatch, two-wire conversations are contaminated by extraneous speakers which represent an additional source of noise in the supervector domain. It is shown that two-wire nuisance manifests itself as undesirable directions in the interspeaker subspace. For this purpose, we derive tw...
